#31DC2013 Day 30 - A Tutorial

I almost didn't get this post out to you today because on Sunday we got a cat, and I haven't cared a whit about anything else. He's the sweetest so I'm posting a picture of him too, along with my nails. I want to apologize for the lighting though, I was distracted by my new friend until the sun went down and I realized I hadn't done my nails today. Eep!

I expect many of you will recognize these animated cartoon nails by cutepolish, over on youtube. If not I highly recommend her channel, it's great and I love her videos.

I knew as soon as I started this challenge that this was the tutorial I was going to follow, because as soon as I saw it I loved it. And here is someone else I loved as soon as I saw. Awww..

Thanks for visiting, see you tomorrow for the very last day of this challenge!

#33DC Day 4 - Tribal Nails

Well, I'm trying new things in this challenge, and I can be proud of that. This is my first attempt with water decals and I think it shows.

I find tribal nails beautiful and complex and wanted to get that without the fiddly brush work so I thought I'd try some decals I had lying around. I tried to pick easy ones for my first time but they were still too hard for me. As soon as I tried to put a coat of SV on top they just started to fall apart. It was very sad. But I guess part of a challenge is failing and I'm happy to show you all that part. I'll comfort myself with the knowledge that not every nail is bad.

#31DC2013 Day 29 - Inspired by (the) Supernatural

For today's challenge I'm ignoring the 'the' in Inspired by the Supernatural and fangirling out for Supernatural the TV show.

I'm a big big fan of the show and especially a fan of Gabriel. That's why the hilarious episode Mystery Spot is the inspiration for today's nails.

The swirls of colour are from when the boys enter the mystery spot, although I took some artistic liberty with the center of the swirls of colour.

I attempted to write "It was the heat of the moment" on my nails since the Asia song is what Sam and Dean wake to every morning but I don't know whether I like how it turned out. What do you think?

It might not be traditionally supernatural but there were definite elements of the supernatural in this and every episode of the show and once I thought it I couldn't get it out of my head. So tell me, did I still meet the criteria?

#31DC2013 Day 28 - Inspired by a Flag

The flag I chose is the Guyanese flag. My housemate and good friend has family from Guyana and since my own ancestry is quite varied I figured I'd just use his. Plus the Guyanese flag is pretty great and I love the colours.

#33DC Day 3 - Tape Mani

Oh dear, it isn't Friday anymore.. I'm sorry, I just got a 3DS and Animal Crossing, I don't know where the afternoon went! I started playing it when I ran out of light for taking pictures of my manicure for today since I wasn't really satisfied with what I did and found out first-hand how much of a time sink that game is. So you get a special early Christmas manicure instead! YAY!

I'll save the other one for something more fitting and show off this Christmas mani I did when it was totally not Christmas.

It's a tape mani that I really like and have been saving with the intent of using it at least in December but I've been feeling very festive recently anyways with the rapid approach of Thanksgiving (Canadian, so 2 weeks from now) and turkey and eggnog and pumpkin pie and the colder weather. I'm even earlier than the mall in terms of holiday cheer but that's okay.

#31DC2013 Day 27 - Inspired by an Artwork

The artwork I chose for today is Barnett Newman's Voice of Fire. Barnett Newman is my favourite colour field painter, and I saw Voice of Fire at the National Gallery of Canada a few years ago and it left a serious impression on me. It has become rather synonymous with red and blue together for me. You can't give the same feel through nails that you can with a canvas that is almost 18 feet tall but I liked thinking about Voice of Fire whenever I looked at my nails.

What do you think of colour field as a style of abstract painting?

#31DC2013 Day 26 - Inspired by a Pattern

Pretty late at night to be posting this one, eh? I've got a very busy schedule now as a grad student, but here it is, so I hope you like it.

#33DC Day 2 - Most Used Colour

Teal and pink, how I love you. These two specific colours should be familiar to you if you follow my blog. They are GOSH Miss Minty and Sally Hansen Coral Reef. It is very sad but I'm running pretty low on both of these. I'll have to go buy more so I can continue to use them all the time.
