#31DC2013 Day 31 AND #33DC Day 5 - Two-in-One!
I stalled a day on my last post to the 31 day challenge so that these two could be posted together because I think that nails I love should connect to the 33 day challenge I'm also participating in since the nail art community is something I really do love. I hope you like my 2-in-1 post!
The technique I used was pioneered by The Nailasaurus and she named it waterfall nail art. I love her blog and wanted to pay tribute to that with this last day in the 31 day challenge using the colours red white and green to tie into the mexican theme for the 33 day challenge.
Please take a peek at both of these inlinkz, I adore what everyone has been doing and it definitely deserves a look.

#33DC Day 4 - Tribal Nails
Well, I'm trying new things in this challenge, and I can be proud of that. This is my first attempt with water decals and I think it shows.
I find tribal nails beautiful and complex and wanted to get that without the fiddly brush work so I thought I'd try some decals I had lying around. I tried to pick easy ones for my first time but they were still too hard for me. As soon as I tried to put a coat of SV on top they just started to fall apart. It was very sad. But I guess part of a challenge is failing and I'm happy to show you all that part. I'll comfort myself with the knowledge that not every nail is bad.

#31DC2013 Day 28 - Inspired by a Flag
The flag I chose is the Guyanese flag. My housemate and good friend has family from Guyana and since my own ancestry is quite varied I figured I'd just use his. Plus the Guyanese flag is pretty great and I love the colours.

#31DC2013 Day 27 - Inspired by an Artwork
The artwork I chose for today is Barnett Newman's Voice of Fire. Barnett Newman is my favourite colour field painter, and I saw Voice of Fire at the National Gallery of Canada a few years ago and it left a serious impression on me. It has become rather synonymous with red and blue together for me. You can't give the same feel through nails that you can with a canvas that is almost 18 feet tall but I liked thinking about Voice of Fire whenever I looked at my nails.
What do you think of colour field as a style of abstract painting?

#31DC2013 Day 24 - Inspired by a Book
The book I chose for today's post is Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, specifically the book I own. I wanted to go with something a bit more abstract so I chose to design something based off of the cover of a book rather than the content.

#31DC2013 Day 17 - Glitter
This glitter is just glorious, it's so extreme! Doesn't really fit into what I think of when I think of glitter and that's why I chose it for day 17. I don't have much to say today so you just get lots and lots of photos. Enjoy!
See you tomorrow!

#31DC2013 Day 16 - Tribal Print
I've never done tribal nails before, I'm loving that this challenge is getting me to step outside of my norm and explore new ideas. It's wonderful. Hope you like my contribution!
See you tomorrow.

#31DC2013 Day 11 - Polka Dots
I love dotticiures, they are fun, easy and very versatile.
This was inspired by the absolutely glorious black and white manicure done by MyNailPolishOnline. She did a great job and I wanted recreate it for today.

#31DC2013 Day 1 - Red Nails
Soo.. I took the summer off from blogging and it has been bothering me more and more. I figure I need to give myself a serious push and hit the ground running to make up for my summer of laziness, and I can't think of a better way than my first ever attempt at the 31 day challenge! 0-31 in a row is the way to go, wish me luck world, and I hope you like my contributions!
So day 1 is red, but red alone on me is always really overwhelming, so I went with a nice fiery gradient to keep that red feeling but lighten up the colour closer to my skin.
I'm very happy with how this turned out, I keep turning my hand and watching it catch the light, and with all the glitter packed into it does it ever catch a lot of it.
So there we have it, this is me hitting the ground running. See you tomorrow with orange!
