#31DC2013 Day 30 - A Tutorial

I almost didn't get this post out to you today because on Sunday we got a cat, and I haven't cared a whit about anything else. He's the sweetest so I'm posting a picture of him too, along with my nails. I want to apologize for the lighting though, I was distracted by my new friend until the sun went down and I realized I hadn't done my nails today. Eep!

I expect many of you will recognize these animated cartoon nails by cutepolish, over on youtube. If not I highly recommend her channel, it's great and I love her videos.

I knew as soon as I started this challenge that this was the tutorial I was going to follow, because as soon as I saw it I loved it. And here is someone else I loved as soon as I saw. Awww..

#31DC2013 Day 28 - Inspired by a Flag

The flag I chose is the Guyanese flag. My housemate and good friend has family from Guyana and since my own ancestry is quite varied I figured I'd just use his. Plus the Guyanese flag is pretty great and I love the colours.

#31DC2013 Day 24 - Inspired by a Book

The book I chose for today's post is Kurt Vonnegut's Slaughterhouse-Five, specifically the book I own. I wanted to go with something a bit more abstract so I chose to design something based off of the cover of a book rather than the content.

#31DC2013 Day 17 - Glitter

This glitter is just glorious, it's so extreme! Doesn't really fit into what I think of when I think of glitter and that's why I chose it for day 17. I don't have much to say today so you just get lots and lots of photos. Enjoy!

#31DC2013 Day 3 - Yellow Nails

So it's day 3 of the 31 day challenge, and that means it's yellow time! Mellow Yellow time actually, by Sally Hansen and topped with Dollish Polish Spank You Very Much.

I think it is now safe to say that Spank You Very Much is one of my very most favourite polishes. Every time I use it I love it and I always try to find ways to use it again and again. With this design I was going for a Floam-y feel since I love the look but don't own the polish. I think this does look similar though, I'm a fan of the colour combination.

I like this for yellow day, it's overall yellow and fairly simple but also nice and sparkly and interesting. I was surprised with how eye catching such a simple design was.

Red, Yellow and Green Watermarble

Whew, hi internet, it's been a while hasn't it? Well, I've been busy in the real world, and I'm pretty excited about it. I've just finished both of my degrees! That's right, I'm getting two bachelors, one in Fine Art and one in Computer Science. I have two different ceremonies and everything, I get to do it all twice including pay the fees, hah. Anyways, I've been just drowning under the work load of my very last undergraduate semester ever but I'm all done now and I've been taking pictures like mad in the mean time so there is a lot for me to catch up on and show off, starting with this watermarble.

I wore this design for a long time without getting any chips, it was only once one of my thumbs chipped that I took some pictures, so I'm pretty darn impressed.

The glitter on top is Claire's Glow in the Dark polish, I know I've told y'all that I love it before. Seeing my nails glow just makes me so happy, and for this watermarble only the yellow glowed, which was really really cool.

You can see how my nails have grown out some from when I first did this, I think I put the glitter on top after a couple days to refresh the look of it all.

Has anyone else noticed their watermarble designs just not chipping that easily? I think it must be the way it wraps around your nails but my watermarbles are so long lasting. I always want to test them out and leave them on for as long as I can stand having the same thing on my nails.

I wish I could remember the polishes I used for the watermarble but I didn't make note of them at the time, silly me. I know it was red, yellow and green that I used, you can sorta see the green in the photo above, it was pretty translucent. If anyone wants to know specifics I can try to figure it out but I think if no one cares I'll just let that go and leave them as mystery polishes.

Neon, whoa!

Neons! So here I am testing out my spiffy new neons. It's so bright and wonderful and I'm really happy with it. I sponged this on and didn't use vaseline or anything around my nails so it was a big pain to get all the excess off. I used a white base to ensure the colours got to be as bright as they could so I don't know how well this covers, next time I use it I'll try it without.

If I did this again I would use purple and blue on the outsides because the blend between purple and blue isn't as smooth as I'd like and those two colours are the darkest.
I'd do this blend next time:
purple/pink, pink/orange, orange/yellow, yellow/green, green/blue

For anyone taking a peek backwards, you'll notice I've added a couple more pictures.

I was glancing through my photos and found some really lovely ones. I thought to myself, why did I only post one image for this design? There wasn't a good reason so more pictures for all I say!

I just watch the bees...

Oh Supernatural, you are such a wonderful, marvelous show. I will re-watch and adore you long after you end and I'm counting the seconds until season 8 when I can see you again.

I'm a bit of a Supernatural fan girl, and in order to redirect my frantic need to buy anything with a quote from the show on it in some messed up desire to prove my love for it I've painted my nails with a favourite quote from Castiel.

I really do enjoy this one, although I could stand to redo it all again in order to try and straighten up the text on my thumb and even out the dashes of my bee trail. Mr. Bee himself I adore, so cute. The tips were free-handed and I'm fairly proud of that. My yellow is Sally Hansen's Lightening and it is in need of a bit of thinner, which is in the mail as I type. The gold is Misa's Disco Queen again, any excuse to use it, honestly.

The bee and the black is acrylic done with some tiny little brushes I bought, I'll post more about that later.

Dune Nail Art

I've decided to join in on the 52 week challenge incredibly late, XD hah it's week 42 oh gosh I hope it loops back! But I couldn't resist because week 42 is Inspired by a Book! and as soon as I saw it I knew I had to do Dune.

Look at my beautiful scrunchie! No, you should look at the nail art. For those who haven't read Dune this is the landscape of the planet Arrakis, which is a desert planet and the home of the critter on my ring finger, a Shai-Hulud or sandworm. The sandworm is an absoltively huge creature and I hope that is clear with the help of the sand dunes in the background.

If you have read Dune lemme know! I love the books and I just watched the miniseries with my boyfriend last week so I've had it on the brain and I'm planning to re-read it, maybe once I finish this post.

This is a lot of firsts for me, this was my first manicure done with acrylic paint, both because I wanted to try it and because I just don't own that many yellow/orange/brown sand colours. It was also the first time I've done the accent ring and thumb, until now I've done all my nails the same and I really really like it this way, so I'll do a lot more of that. It's also the first time I've done a scene and it was so, so fun.

Oh, also, I've seen in others posts for the 52 week challenge that they include others who are participating, so if anyone could tell me where that list is or how to do it I'd be much obliged.
