#33DC Day 6 - Texture

Sparkles, YAY! So I dipped my nails in glitter today. I tried to get it off everything but my nails but.. you know glitter.. so excuse the random sparkles in my photos.

I have a very sad thing to tell you, I wanted so badly to use a textured nail polish for today's challenge but.. I don't own one.. Isn't that sad? I think I'll need to remedy this very soon.

#33DC Day 1 - Dots

Whoa, whoa self, what are you doing? You aren't even done your other challenge! This is insane, but here we go, I'm starting another. I think I'm addicted.

Dots are incredibly versatile. I really do love them. I used the dots as a gradient here and I feel like I've got pastel teal fizzy drink on my nails, but maybe that's just me.

What do you think of my pastel combination? Thanks for visiting, see you tomorrow for #31DC2013 or on Wednesday for day 2, most used colour. And if you want to participate check out our facebook group here, this challenge is every Mon, Wed, Fri and should be a lot of fun.

#31DC2013 Day 18 - Half Moons

Half moons are fun! I mixed texture here and painted pink on the underside of my nails too. I thought half moons would work very well with these two techniques.

The polishes I used for this design are Sally Hansen Coral Reef and Kleancolor Bright & Breezy which is a matte metallic polish.

I took lots of pictures so I could try and show off the underside of my nails and how the light hits the matte polish. I like the last one best.

See you tomorrow!

#31DC2013 Day 15 - Delicate Print

I chose to do a marble-esque look for my delicate print design. It might be more on the natural side of prints but I think it counts! I have two versions of this design for you as well because the first might be a tad subtle and the last might not be subtle enough.. rather than decide myself I decided to post both, maybe you all can tell me, eh?

This is my first design. On the screen on my camera I couldn't even see the variation between the pink and the silver.

Can you see the sparkle from my silver still on my fingers? It was so difficult to get rid of!

And this is my second design, can you see why I thought it might not be subtle enough? But I do like it, still.

Tomorrow is tribal nails, are you excited?

#31DC2013 Day 14 - Flowers

Oh flowers.. this one drove me mad. There is a reason it is being posted so late today, I must have redone this day's design six or seven times. Luckily I accomplished something I was satisfied with before the sun went down and with time to do everything a day requires other than nail polish.

I wanted to stick to pinks and purples, throughout my attempts that never wavered. I used Gosh Rose, Sinful Colors Let's Talk and my Kiss nail art pen in purple for my colours with Kleancolor Fuschia Glitter on top for some sparkle.

That's all folks!

#31DC2013 Day 6 - Violet Nails

So, violet is a pretty nice colour isn't it? Reminds me of purple.. psh sorry, I'm feeling pretty silly today, it's my first day of classes as a Master's student, I've got to get my excitement out somehow. I'll pour that energy into the rest of this challenge, maybe get a bit ahead of it so that I have a buffer for super exciting but difficult grad work.

I've got lots of pictures of this one for you, I love photographing glitter polish, it's so sparkly!

The polishes I used here are Color Club Fashion Addict with a thin coat of Cult Nails Charlatan over that for a bit more of a pink shimmer and then Essie Stroke of Brilliance for the glitter gradient on top of that.

That's it for violet, can't wait to do black and white tomorrow! See you then!

Fishtail Braid in Cool Colours

I hadn't tried a fishtail braid design before now, it's a lot of fun and really very pretty! I chose to use dark colours here so the difference is pretty subtle, I definitely want to try this out with some bright different colours as well for a different effect.
This was freehanded, I considered taping but decided against it, most of the time I managed to keep things pretty even in width. One problem with this type of design is the polish on the tips of your nails can get a little thick if you aren't careful.
I love a good top coat over dark colours, I'm using Seche Vite here. Haven't had a problem with shrinkage since the first time I used it when I put on far too much, maybe wrapping my tips is helping with that.
Thanks for looking!

Purple and Gold Jelly Sandwich

I like this one. It was a lot of fun. I wanted to try doing a jelly sandwich but I didn't have any really interesting glitters. Guess I need, that's right, need, to buy more! But either way what I ended up with is pretty neat.
I used GOSH Gasoline for my purple because it is pretty sheer, I did a couple coats of it on all but my accent nail first. Then I used Misa Disco Queen for the gold which I put on every nail, but lightly on the purple ones.
I did another layer of Gasoline over the gold very lightly so you could still see the gold underneath, and on my accent nail I did a coat of Sally Hansen Big Money over the accent nail.
This is what it looked like then, and I felt like it wasn't quite right yet. Also, whoa pointer finger, why must you be so woobly? I filed away and re-did the shaping on my nails once I saw how strange it looked from this mani in some of the photos.
I did a band of gold again on each nail to give it a little something extra and to give a little continuity to the design.
And here I go with Abraxas again, showing off nails and snake at the same time. He's just so pretty!
What do you think of this design? Can it still count as a jelly sandwich?
