#31DC2013 Day 15 - Delicate Print

I chose to do a marble-esque look for my delicate print design. It might be more on the natural side of prints but I think it counts! I have two versions of this design for you as well because the first might be a tad subtle and the last might not be subtle enough.. rather than decide myself I decided to post both, maybe you all can tell me, eh?

This is my first design. On the screen on my camera I couldn't even see the variation between the pink and the silver.

Can you see the sparkle from my silver still on my fingers? It was so difficult to get rid of!

And this is my second design, can you see why I thought it might not be subtle enough? But I do like it, still.

Polish Days - Sentimental

So here it is, my submission for Polish Days. The category this month is Sentimental, and for that theme I've chosen to post a water marble design for you all.

Right hand

Water marbling is what got me back into nail art after a long time of not doing it at all. You can see my first ever water marble at the end of this post, and it wasn't amazing but it really got me geared up to grow my nails and improve my designs as well as start this blog.

Right hand

To do this water marble I used a base coat of Revlon LilyChrome, which was interesting since I still have a patch on my right pinky and chrome polishes show every bump and imperfection. Because of that I worked hard to get a pattern on my pinky that would make the patch as unnoticeable as possible. How did I do?

Left hand

I used Wet n Wild Lady Luck and Wet n Wild 9.0.2.1.Orange for the colours and interspersed OPI Don't Touch My Tutu in order to really let the silver show through, since it is a very sheer white. Then I dotted 9.0.2.1.Orange in curving lines to compliment the water marble and add a bit more orange to the design (and to cover any bubbles or flaws in the water marble, but shhh). I used orange gems to do an accent nail on each hand as well.

Did you notice? On my right hand I ended up with two very different fingers, but I just had to keep them, I absolutely adore the way they turned out. Anyways, thanks for reading! Pink and Black Splatter

Oh wow, being back at school is incredibly busy. But don't worry, I've been taking pictures of my nails while not posting all week and now I have a fair sized backup of nail designs to show you. That means that the next time things get busy I have some wiggle room, which is really neat.

Anyways, here is a really fun one.

This is done with cling wrap, bunched into a ball and dabbed into the polish and onto my nail, rather than pushed onto the nail to remove polish as I've seen in some tutorials. There is a lot you can do with cling wrap so it's great to experiment with.

I used four nail polishes in this design. The base colour was GOSH Rose, and then I did a layer using cling wrap of each of the following: Color Club Electro Candy, ACO Tuxedo and GOSH Silver.

The silver over top of it all blends the whole look together a lot more, before that it was very stark which is another look and was quite nice on it's own.

All in all this was easy and quick to do and I like how it turned out. What do you think of this design?

Silver Bands with Gold

Check it out! Silver bands with gold accenting it.

I chose this because I was glancing through my polish and saw these three silvers, all a little different. I thought it'd be fun to layer them by complexity so that's what I did. I started off with Revlon LilyChrome, which is just a nice silver chrome polish. It dries incredibly quickly so it didn't take long before I could use some tape to make a diagonal line and do a coat of GOSH Silver. Then I did a coat of Color Club Worth the Risque, which is still silver but holo too. Misa Disco Queen was used for the gold accents.

This is what it looked like before I added the gold, sorry for not tidying it up before taking the picture! I liked it but it was a bit too simple. Which do you prefer?

Rhinestone Flowers

So here I am continuing my fun with my new polish purchases. I'm revisiting the neon and Worth the Risque combo ala flower this time, mostly to give myself an excuse to try rhinestones.

I had fun with this design, although it is a little childish. I don't mind that, I was sick when I did it so it was nice to have some cute neon flowers and jewels to cheer myself up.

This design had a surprising amount of staying power. I had it on for 6 days before a rhinestone came off, although I was sick at home for about 5 days of that. The images above and below are just before I took it off, the orange rhinestone on my pointer finger is the one that came off that morning, you can see the crack in the polish where I bent my nail earlier that day. Replacing the rhinestone was easy as pie, but the crack meant it just couldn't stay, plus I was getting a bit bored with it by then.

 

All in all, fun, cute, kiddy. I think I might of went a bit overboard with the flowers and the rhinestones and the rainbow of colours though. What do you think?

Neon Taping

Hello Internet!
Summer semester exams are right now, and I'm not out of the muck yet but I'm taking a minute to post a design for you and to give myself a bit of a breather.
So, neons are fun but I wanted to try something that wasn't quite so flashy and I wanted to take another swing at taping. Here are the results!

I redid my pointer finger because my boyfriend said that it looked a little funny coming out from the nail bed and he preferred the ones with the colour coming in from the sides, I think I agree.

I really liked the look of this. The Electro Candy neons from Color Club and Worth the Risque are both splendid in their own ways and using them together was great and really complimentary. Also, taping worked very well! YES!
I tried out neon gel powders after I'd had this for a while to get a glow in the dark effect on the colours. I tried very hard to get a photo of it glowing for you but, alas, I didn't succeed. It did glow though and it was neat. Here are my nails with the powder, you can tell it is there and I definitely prefer the look without the powder but I'll keep playing with it and see.

And rhinestones! I put them on just a bit before I took the whole thing off but still, rhinestones!

Subtle Gradient

Here I am revisiting the glitter gradient design, this time with a much more subtle pink shimmer called 086 Rose, and a silver glitter aptly if boringly called 555 Silver, both from Gosh. Despite their uninspiring names I adore both of these, application, colour, shine, everything. I like how subtle this gradient turned out. It also lasted quite a while, there's a slight chip on my middle finger there, when I noticed it I realized I had had this on for most of the work week without taking a picture.

My ring finger nail looks way longer than my other nails.. wow.. ehehehe.. it doesn't look like that looking at them now.

Anyways, I have a secret for you, but you can't tell. I did this right after the other gradient, I just didn't want to post two in a row. I'm messing with time! Mwahaha!
